| Mike Dart, below, is a Cherokee basket artist, Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma. Mike was taught by Shawna Morton-Cain and has been weaving for 16 years. Hair was part of an original group of Cherokee weavers, and has taught the art to both her daughter and granddaughter, for over 55 years. |

| National Treasures Shawna Morton Cain, and Roger Cain are an award winning Cherokee artist team. Shawna is known world wide for her fine art basketry work, and Roger for his mask making skills. |

| Cherokee National Treasure 2008 The coordinator of the Living Treasures program has not provided any information for the National Treasure honors, or applications, this year, or requested any publicity; so, the Cherokee Nation Communication, media office, did not have any information in there office as of Friday, June 27. However, if you are interested, it is suggested you call the office of the Chief and ask for more information. The CAHC will be nominating Martha Berry, beadwork artist, this year. We had wanted to nominate others, but due to the lack of time after learning he deadline, we could not. ~ We have been notified the deadline for nominations was Monday, June 30, 2008. |
| The Cherokee Arts & Humanities Council Artist(s) of the year, 2008, will be announced in April of 2009. ~ Nominations may be made by sending the nominees information, including a short bio. to the CAHC, before Jan. 1, 2009. |
